DUTIES AND RELATED SKILLS

• Designs, develops, coordinates, lays out, and artistically creates and produces visual information products, including digital presentations, computer-generated illustrations, and printed publications in various media formats using graphics, photography, and video to promote Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR) operations, facilities, programs, and events, achieving the most effective impact for scheduled demands. Ensures final products convey the intended message to, or have the desired effect on, the intended audience and meet organizational goals, mission, and vision. Products include brochures, posters, flyers, magazines, newsletters, production layouts, data visualizations, infographics, motion graphics, animations, PowerPoint presentations, logos and branding, original vector designs, icons, banners, diagrams, graphs, charts, exhibits, photographs, photo compositions, videos, media displays, electronic displays, computer graphics, interactive web-based reports, and multimedia digital output.

• Communicates regularly with subject matter experts, the Marketing Director, and the Publicity Lead to discuss projects’ scope of work, including objectives, characteristics, requirements, and effective strategies for visual communications. Transforms verbal and written descriptions of items and events into visual representations. Applies the principles of visual design to assure the best methods of communicating and portraying information are used, and which technical characteristics associated with various methods of visual display are applied including formats, styles, typography, color schemes, textures, shapes, special effects, materials, assembly, fabrication, and location specification for various weather conditions. Reviews visual information products for technical quality and accuracy and ensures all end products are properly formatted and adhere to the Navy Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) brand and style guide.

• Coordinates and assigns all other graphic design requirements to designers. Directs and supervises workloads for designers to ensure all deadlines are met. Reviews all work before production for aesthetic appeal, quality control, correct information, and compliance with branding guides and internal standard operating procedures. Prepares required reports and resource estimates of visual information material required. Monitors budgetary planning for projects and researches printing estimates, quotes, and production and delivery timelines for materials and projects. Creates purchase orders for any projects printed offsite and/or for marketing materials. Oversees inventory purchases and ensures production materials are appropriately stocked within budget constraints.

• Provides photographic/video support of events and activities to use in a variety of layouts. Applies artistic/photographic skill when planning, preparing, producing and executing visual products, including the selection of proper lenses and filters and staging of backdrops and lighting. Photography and video assignments include headshots; documenting in-house projects, group functions, special events, ceremonial and historical events, construction, FFR operations, and training activities; and updating photos and photography products for MWR events and campaign displays.

• Prepared the design, page layout/pagination and pre-press production for all Council publications and textbooks, newsletter, flyers, brochures, certificates, credentials, Power Point presentations, business cards, letterhead, envelopes, and other visual information material in coordination with the Communications and Marketing team.

• Managed publications projects by coordinating with authors and subject matter experts to review text, content, design, graphics, and layout to ensure the publications were to the Council’s brand and style guide.

• Created all design elements such as logos, icons, original vector designs, charts, diagrams, and illustrations for marketing materials’ use in visual presentations, online content, print, and multimedia.

• Managed Council photography and videography, including conducting onsite/offsite photo and video shoots for events and conferences, organizing and maintaining the database of pictures, and color correcting and editing pictures for general use.

• Oversaw the Council’s website using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to helped develop the new look and feel of the website to match current marketing stlyes.

• Oversaw all printed and online materials to ensure that the design matches the Council’s branding (logos, color palette, and typography) for all internal and external communications.

• Developed relationships with printers and other outside vendors related to publications and made recommendations to meet branding and quality standards at acceptable cost.

• Researched multiple options for best quality printing standards, e.g., paper weight/type, color, and specialized embellishments such as embossing, foil stamping, or spot varnish.

• Managed the Council’s social media platforms, including design and distribution of e-newsletters with Constant Contact; updating the Council’s Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest accounts; and updating content on the Council’s website.
